How We Collect, Use And Look After Your Information.

This policy explains what personal information The Scruffy Trader collects when you use thescruffytrader.com, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are. It was last updated on 26 October 2026.

Who We Are

The Scruffy Trader runs this website and is responsible for your personal information (the “data controller” under UK data protection law). If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email info@thescruffytrader.com.

What We Collect

  • Contact form messages: your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message. When you send a form, the website also records the IP address you sent it from, the browser and device type (user agent), the page you sent it from and the date and time.
  • Emails: if you email us or reply to one of our emails, we keep the email and your email address.
  • Bookings: when you book a 1-on-1 session, your name, email address, phone number (if given), the session details and any notes you add.
  • Orders and courses: when you buy a module or create an account, your name, email address, billing details, order history, login details and course progress.
  • Payments: card and PayPal payments are handled by Stripe and PayPal. We see the payment result and the last few digits of a card, but we never see or store your full card details.
  • Security records: if someone tries to use the website in a way that breaks our terms, the website records the email address used, the IP address, the browser and the date and time of the attempt.

Why We Use It

  • To reply to your messages and give you the help or advice you asked for.
  • To take and manage bookings, orders, course access and payments (needed to provide what you have asked for).
  • To keep the website secure, prevent misuse and fraud, and deal with disputes and chargebacks (our legitimate interests).
  • To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping financial records.

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

Who We Share It With

We only share your information with the companies that help us run the website and our services, and only what they need:

  • Our website hosting provider, which stores the website, its database and our email.
  • Stripe and PayPal, to take payments.
  • Google, for calendar bookings (Google Calendar) and YouTube memberships.
  • Patreon and Discord, if you join our community through them. Their own privacy policies apply to the information you give them.
  • WhatsApp, if you choose to message us using the WhatsApp button.
  • The police, courts or other authorities, if the law requires it or it is needed to prevent or detect crime.

How Long We Keep It

  • Contact form messages and emails: up to 2 years after our last contact with you, unless we need them longer to deal with a complaint or dispute.
  • Bookings, orders and payment records: 6 years, for tax and accounting reasons.
  • Accounts and course progress: for as long as your account is open. You can ask us to close it at any time.
  • Security records: for as long as needed to protect the website.

Cookies

The website uses cookies that are needed for it to work, such as keeping you logged in, remembering your basket and taking payments securely (Stripe and PayPal set their own cookies for this). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Some pages show content from YouTube and social media, which may set their own cookies when you view or play it.

Your Rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit how we use it. To make a request, email info@thescruffytrader.com. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
